[Quotes] What to Do?

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive”

Wow, it has been a really long time since I last posted on this blog.  Surprisingly, I’m still getting quite a few hits on a number of blog posts, though.

Here’s a quick update on what’s going on with me:

My wife and I have a new addition to our family!  Woohoo!  That’s probably one of the big reasons I haven’t really been paying much attention to this blog lately.  Our daughter, Fiona, is a wonderful little girl.  She’s spunky like her mom… which is going to be trouble sooner or later!

Professionally, I’ve shifted gears a little bit in the last 9 months.  I’m no longer focusing on SharePoint, but am now working with a few well-known open source projects.  Among them are MonoRail and ActiveRecord from Castle Project.  Working with ActiveRecord means that I’m now using NHibernate as an object-relational model.  I’ve been using NVelocity for web site templating, Scriptaculous for animations and PrototypeJS because it’s incredibly useful.  I’m back to using TestDriven.net for unit testing, CruiseControl for continuous build integration, and NAnt for build scripts and other automated functionality.

Hopefully, I’ll start blogging about some of these technologies I’ve been using.  If nothing else, posts can serve to remind me of trouble spots I’ve run into and how I fixed certain problems.

Peace and Blessings to you!

Since we started this blog, I’ve probably spent more time supporting the code and making miniscule changes than blogging and taking pictures.  I really don’t have very much time to mess with websites outside of my work, and, frankly, it’s not something I really want to do outside of work time.  I would rather be taking pictures, spending time with my wife, reading, praying, laughing, or blogging.

Therefore, I’ve moved our blog to wordpress.com: a place where the code is neatly hidden from me and the server is well-supported (and not by me).  Anywho, stay tuned for more blogging, and waaay less CSS fine-tuning.

Rhode Island has finally been visited by some snow clouds! Today was the second day I had to use the snow-brush to clear off my car. We were also pleasantly surprised by the plow clearing our driveway 5 minutes before we headed off to work. Here’s a nice picture of the snow in North Kingstown:

Snowboarding and Bruises

We’ve started up this blog to help keep our friends and family updated with our whereabouts and doings. I’m not sure exactly how it will work out or what we’ll write here, but we’ll try to keep it interesting. We’ve also posted some pictures, which you can get to by clicking ‘Pictures’ on the top of the web page. Anywho, we’re still out here in Rhode Island, doing the internship. We just recently took a trip up north to do some snowboarding. Adriane has been skiing since she was three years old, and I had never even seen a ski sloap before. Before the weekend was over, I had bruises all over my body from falling down on the snow (even the powder hurts when you fall), but Adriane said that I did better than she expected. I started off on the bunny hill, but by the end of the second day, I was riding down (and falling down) a blue trail. Sure, 5-year-old kids where blowing past me and I had all I could do to keep out of the way, but it was a ton of fun!

Next weekend, we’re off for a conference. All the interns from here will be going along with a few of the leaders, so it should be a great time.
